FAQs

Q. Is it true that once you have had your carpet/suite cleaned they get dirtier quicker?
A.
This was true many years ago when cleaning by shampoo was the normal way owners tackled their carpets themselves. Cleaning Time uses state of art machinery and follows safe methods making this almost impossible to ever happen.

Q. I have just bought a steam cleaner can I clean my carpets/upholstery with it?
A.
Although these steam machines are often advertised as suitable for cleaning carpets and soft furnishings BE CAREFUL! The twist in a cut pile carpet is heat set and using excessively high heat (steam) can release the twist in the pile giving the carpet a felt like appearance. The use of these units on velvet pile fabrics will result in severe distortion damage.

Q. Will my carpet shrink?
A.
Cleaning Time technician will inspect the carpet prior to any cleaning taking place. During this inspection any risk of potential shrinkage can be identified and discussed with you. It may be that the carpet fittings are not secure and require correction. Some carpets are more prone to shrinkage and may have to be cleaned by an alternative method but this would be thoroughly discussed with the client before any work proceeds.

Q. Will all the stains come out?
A.
Most stains will come out during the cleaning process. Some of the more difficult dye stains may need some specialist treatment to deal with them. Any success at removing these types of stains is often diminished by home remedies that have already been tried before the Cleaning Time is called out to deal with them. The quicker we are called out to deal with the spot or stain, The better chance we have of removing successfully. We never give you 100% Guarantee that we will remove every single spot or stain, In most cases we do but not always can be accomplished due to circumstances of the spot or stain etc.

Q. Can I put the cushion covers in the washing machine?
A.
Not Advisable . . . the zips are fitted on cushions are for the ease of the manufacturer to get the foam fillers into the covers NOT for the consumer to take off to wash. These zips are not very strong and can easily break. The covers can shrink making it difficult to get the fillers back in. Some washing powders can affect the colours of the cushions giving a less pleasing appearance to the item of furniture.

Q. Do you use chemicals to clean?
A.
Every cleaning system uses some form of chemical to clean, water is a chemical and forms the basis of most cleaning solutions. A good experienced company like Cleaning Time will be using safe cleaning solution and will rinse the items to make sure that no residues remain within the fibres.

Q: What Type Of Cleaning System Do You Use?
A:
The cleaning system we use is known as Hot Water Extraction. This is sometimes incorrectly referred to as steam cleaning, due to the fine mist produced from the cleaning tools, but as the temperature in operation is only between 50-70c thus the similarity ends. This is widely considered to be the most effective and thorough method of cleaning. Where as dry powder or bonnet cleaning systems merely touch the top surface, our powerful triple vac machines clean your carpets from the base of the pile to the tip of the fibres, ensuring maximum soil removal every time. Firstly, we will always vacuum your carpets or furniture, and then depending on how badly soiled the carpet or upholstery is, a pre-spray is applied as a wetting agent to help breakdown the soil, this is then rinsed off with a detergent under pressure then extracted.

Q: Will My Carpets Or Furniture Be Left Wet After Cleaning?
A:
No. After the cleaning process, carpets and upholstery are left slightly damp. We make every effort to ensure your carpets are left as dry as possible, this very much depends on the degree of soilage, conditions and type of fabric and carpet pile length. Where appropriate turbo dryers will be used to speed up drying times, and in this instance carpets and furniture are virtually dry before we leave.

Q: Will I Need To Move The Furniture Or Clear The Room When You Clean My Carpets?
A:
No. We move the furniture where necessary, unless you tell us not to. However, we do ask you to remove any breakables from the cleaning area, if possible. Any furniture we do move will be replaced on protective pads or polystyrene blocks, to avoid staining the carpet whilst damp.

Q: How Long Before I Can Walk On My Clean Carpet?
A:
You can walk on freshly cleaned carpet straight away, if absolutely necessary, but you must wear soft shoes with non-marking soles. However, we do recommend that you do not walk on clean carpet for at least 4 hours, or until it is touch dry. Children and pets should not be allowed to crawl on clean carpet, until it is completely dry.

Q. How long will my carpet/furniture take to dry?
A.
Drying times for carpets and soft furnishings can vary greatly due to the following conditions: Relative humidity within the environment.Adequate ventilation introduced to the environmentthe moisture retention rates of the respective fibres.
(Wool, Nylon, Cotton, Polyester, Polypropylene, etc. With the most favourable conditions, Cleaning Time drying time is between 2 - 4 hours.

Q: How Often Should I Get My Carpets And Upholstery Cleaned?
A:
This very much depends on your circumstances, but generally you should look to having your soft furnishings cleaned at least every 12 months. Manufacturers of soft furnishings will recommend a deep clean every 12 months, and a quarterly to a bi-annual clean if you have pets.
It should always be your aim to have healthy carpets and upholstery as well as being visilbly clean. Regular cleaning of these items will prolong their life and appearance.

Q: Why Do You Not Have A Price List? I Had A Leaflet Through The Door With Prices On?
A:
We believe that the cost of a service should be between the client and the service provider. For example, it would not be fair to charge Mrs Smith who lives with just her husband the same for cleaning her carpet as Mrs Jones who lives with her husband, 3 children, 4 cats and 2 dogs. They may have the same size carpet, but the circumstances present a very different cleaning scenario. Leaflets can be very misleading, often having a "from" such and such a price. Chances are if you ring these companies and arrange to have your carpets cleaned, they probably will not offer to come and see what their cleaning and measure up properly, only give you an estimate over the phone. And when the cleaner eventually turns up to do the job he/she tells you that the price you were quoted is for a basic clean only, you will have to pay extra if you want stains removed etc.
This is where our carpet care survey comes into play, it's FREE you get an accurate quotation and you are under no obligation.

We have compiled a list of FAQs (frequently asked questions) about our company, it's services and products.
